Picture this. A private island in the Caribbean Sea. Crystal clear turquoise water. A breathtaking over-the-water villa. See through-glass floor. Floating water hammock. Private infinity pool. Your own personal butler. Can you imagine a more perfect honeymoon spot? We didn’t think so.

From the moment Jennifer and David got engaged, they started dreaming about honeymooning in a romantic bungalow just like this. And when the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to reschedule their wedding three times, we were determined to send them on the honeymoon of a lifetime.

What did you love most about your stay?

The entire trip was an absolutely a once in a lifetime experience. Literally magical.

We loved the seclusion of the over-the-water bungalow. When we arrived a boat took us to a private island where we found our villa, and it was stunning… out of this world!

I’m in medical school and my husband has a very busy job, so we don’t often get the change to just be alone together. This was perfect.

What were your favorite special features?

We loved having our own private everything. It added so much romance to our trip.

It was amazing to have a private pool and our own swimming area in the Caribbean sea. Plus, we had 24/7 butler service where we were treated to everything from couples massages in our bungalow to a bath drawn with rose petals.

The room service meals were the best, and our favorite times were getting surprised with snacks throughout the day. Whether it was an assortment of cheese and crackers, homemade cookies, or Piña Coladas, we loved all our treats.

Tell us about the COVID-19 Safety Protocols you experienced during your stay.

As someone in the medical field, I am very cautious with COVID-19. And I can honestly say, Sandals went above and beyond what they had to do to keep everyone healthy. I was really happy to see that they were protecting their employees.

They didn’t require guests to wear masks because nearly everything is outside, but inside, there were constant hand sanitizing stations and all the employees wore masks at all times. I felt extremely safe.

When it came time to get our COVID-19 tests to return to the US, the resort handled everything. Our butler greeted us in a golf cart to get our tests, and we had our results immediately. Plus, they offered insurance that would cover us to stay at the resort and quarantine if our results had come back positive.

What was it like working with a travel agent?

I’m a very detail oriented and had never used a travel agent before. But it was so worth it. It was definitely nice to work with D’Amico Travel during the pandemic. They took care of all the rescheduling and flights, all the changes, put in requests for the best bungalow locations, arranged our transportation and sent us all the travel documents we needed.

When our wedding was rescheduled for the third time and we knew we wanted an over-the-water bungalow, they led us in exactly the right direction.

One of the best perks was their ability to set us up with a personal airport greeting and expedited immigration so we could pass through customs quickly. We never had to wait for anything.

I also appreciated that I was able to ask questions about other people’s trips and experiences and get their seal of approval on this extraordinary location before we booked. We had never been to a Sandals Resort or Jamaica, so it gave us peace of mind to know they were so highly recommended.

We were worried about how we would get to the other resort midway through our stay, but they put our minds at ease and booked us a private transfer. They emailed us when we got there to see how everything was and checked in with us throughout our vacation. We got to stay in the best bungalow location because of their request, and they made sure everyone knew it was our honeymoon so we would feel special.

What advice would you give to someone planning a honeymoon right now?

Go for it! If you have the opportunity to travel, do it. We just lived through over a year of not being able to do anything. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I never thought I’d say this because we’ve traveled so much, but our honeymoon was truly the time of our lives. I can’t believe how special it was. Being deprived of natural beauty and travel and tourism for so long made it that much better. We had such a great time that it’s shifted our perspective on how we’ll celebrate milestones in the future. From now on, we want to focus on experiences and travel instead of gifts.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I didn’t know travel agencies were still a thing until recently. We definitely recommend working with D’Amico Travel. It was such a gift to have an agent who is well-traveled and has a wealth of experience. They were able to give us advice and brought us to a destination we never thought we’d see. It was honestly the best 9 days of our lives.
