What to Pack for Sandals Resort: The Complete Packing List
Packing for Sandals sounds easy… until you’re halfway to the airport wondering if you forgot something important.
If you’re wondering what to pack for Sandals Resort, the good news is that you probably need a lot less than you think. After helping hundreds of clients plan Sandals vacations, and visiting Sandals Resorts ourselves, our team at D’Amico Travel has learned which items you’ll actually use, which outfits you’ll need for dinner, and what can stay home.
Most days at Sandals are pretty simple: swimsuit, cover-up, sandals, sunscreen, and something nice to wear to dinner.
But there are a few things first-time Sandals guests don’t always know about, especially when it comes to restaurant dress codes, White Night, excursions, and what Sandals already provides.
Here’s the Sandals packing list we recommend to our own clients.
Sandals Resort Packing List: The Essentials
Start with the basics you’ll use throughout your vacation:
- Swimsuits: we recommend bringing at least two
- Swimsuit cover-ups
- Flip-flops or comfortable sandals
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Sun hat
- Lightweight daytime outfits
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Dinner outfits
- Appropriate dinner shoes or sandals
- All-white outfit for White Night
- Small beach or pool bag
- Toiletries and personal care products
- Prescription medications
- Phone charger
- Portable charger
- Travel documents and passport
- Reusable water bottle
- Small amount of cash for tips outside the resort, excursions, airport purchases, and other incidentals
If you have excursions planned, think about those before you pack, too. A zip-line excursion, waterfall hike, catamaran day, or snorkeling trip may require very different clothing and footwear than a day spent by the pool.
Our biggest advice: don’t pack for the vacation you might have. Pack for the vacation you’ve actually planned.
What to Wear During the Day at Sandals
Daytime at Sandals is generally very relaxed.
For most days, you’ll probably live in your swimsuit, cover-up, shorts, sundresses, T-shirts, sandals, and other lightweight resort wear.
If you’re planning to spend most of your time between the beach and pool, you don’t need a completely different outfit for every day.
We usually recommend bringing at least two swimsuits so you always have a dry one available.
You’ll also want a cover-up or casual outfit handy when walking through the resort or grabbing something to eat.
What to Wear to Dinner at Sandals Resorts
This is one of the biggest packing questions we get from first-time Sandals guests.
Sandals restaurants generally use two dress-code categories: Resort Casual and Resort Evening.
Resort Casual
Think relaxed vacation attire.
Shorts or jeans, T-shirts and polo shirts are generally acceptable. Swimwear should be covered, and shirts and footwear are required.
Resort Evening
This is where you’ll want to pack something a little nicer.
For men, that may mean long pants or jeans, a dress shirt, and appropriate dress shoes or sandals. Women have plenty of flexibility with dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, dressy tops, pants, and sandals.
One important tip: check the restaurants at your specific Sandals Resort before you finish packing.
Restaurant options and dress requirements can vary, and it’s much easier to throw an extra dinner outfit into your suitcase than realize once you arrive that you didn’t bring what you need.
You can also review the current Sandals Resort dress code and FAQs on Sandals’ official website before traveling.
Don’t Forget an Outfit for Sandals White Night
This is one of those things first-time guests may not realize until they’re already at the resort.
Sandals Resorts are known for hosting a White Night, so pack at least one all-white outfit.
It doesn’t have to be complicated.
A white sundress, linen outfit, jumpsuit, button-down, or another comfortable all-white look works perfectly.
Even if you’re someone who normally skips resort theme nights, we recommend packing something white. It takes up almost no extra room, and you’ll be glad you have the option once you’re there.
What to Pack in Your Carry-On for Sandals
Here’s one of our favorite Sandals travel tips:
Pack your first few hours of vacation in your carry-on.
Depending on your flight and arrival time, you may arrive at the resort before your room is ready.
Instead of digging through your checked luggage or waiting to change keep these items with you:
- Swimsuit
- Cover-up
- Sandals or flip-flops
- Sunglasses
- Sunscreen
- Medication
- Passport and travel documents
- Phone charger
- Valuables
- One change of clothes
That way, once you’ve arrived and your luggage is taken care of, you can change and start enjoying the resort.
Nobody wants to spend their first afternoon in paradise waiting around in airport clothes.
What You Don’t Need to Pack for Sandals
This is where we see people overpack.
Unless there’s something you personally can’t travel without, you can usually leave some of the “just in case” items at home.
You probably don’t need:
- A different outfit for every hour of the day
- Multiple pairs of dress shoes
- Several heavy evening outfits
- Too many beach towels
- Excessive amounts of cash
- Formal clothing you’ll never actually wear
- Half your bathroom cabinet
Sandals vacations tend to be much more relaxed once you’re actually there than they feel when you’re standing over an open suitcase at home.
Give yourself permission to pack lighter.
What Sandals Already Includes
Another reason you can keep your packing relatively simple is that a lot is already taken care of once you arrive.
Sandals Resorts include unlimited dining, beverages, Wi-Fi, many land and water sports, and roundtrip airport transfers. Certified divers can also take advantage of included scuba diving, subject to Sandals’ current policies and requirements.
Your exact amenities and activities can vary by resort, so we always recommend checking what’s available at the specific Sandals you’re visiting.
Knowing what’s already included also helps you plan what you’ll actually need.
For example, if your vacation plan is primarily beach, pool, dinner, and included resort activities, your suitcase can be much simpler than someone planning several off-property excursions.
Our Biggest Sandals Packing Tip: Don’t Overpack
If there’s one thing we’d tell you after helping so many travelers prepare for Sandals vacations, it’s this:
You will probably wear less than you think.
Pack around how you’re actually going to spend your days.
If your perfect Sandals day looks like breakfast, beach, pool, lunch, back to the room, dinner, and drinks, you don’t need five daytime outfits.
You need great swimwear, a few comfortable resort outfits, your dinner clothes, and the essentials.
Save the extra suitcase space.
You may want it for the trip home.
Before You Zip Your Suitcase…
Take five minutes and think through your actual itinerary.
Are you doing an excursion?
Do you have a special dinner planned?
Are you celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary?
Will you participate in White Night?
Are you planning professional photos?
Are there specific restaurants you don’t want to miss?
Those answers will tell you much more about what you need to pack than a generic Caribbean packing list ever could.
And that’s something we help our clients think through before they travel.
Sandals Resort Packing FAQ
What should I pack for a Sandals Resort?
For most Sandals vacations, pack swimsuits, cover-ups, sunscreen, casual daytime clothing, dinner outfits, comfortable sandals, appropriate evening footwear, an all-white outfit for White Night, medications, travel documents, and anything required for planned excursions.
The key is packing according to your specific resort and itinerary rather than bringing something for every possible situation.
What do you wear to dinner at Sandals Resorts?
It depends on the restaurant. Sandals uses Resort Casual and Resort Evening dress codes. Some restaurants are very relaxed, while others require dressier clothing.
Check the restaurants at your specific resort before traveling so you know what you’ll need.
Do I need an all-white outfit for Sandals?
We recommend bringing one. Sandals is known for its White Night events, and an all-white outfit is easy to pack even if you ultimately decide not to participate.
Do men need closed-toe shoes at Sandals?
Don’t assume every restaurant requires closed-toe shoes. Sandals’ Resort Evening guidance allows appropriate dress shoes or sandals but excludes certain casual footwear. Always review the current dress requirements for your particular resort and restaurants before traveling.
What should I pack in my carry-on for Sandals?
We recommend keeping your passport, medication, valuables, swimsuit, cover-up, sunscreen, sandals, phone charger, and a change of clothes in your carry-on.
If you arrive before your room is available or your checked luggage is delayed, you’ll still have everything you need to start your vacation.
